The Holy Scripture

We believe that the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the inerrant and complete Word of God, written under the supernatural inspiration of the Holy Spirit.1 Scripture is God's final and perfect revelation of Himself to humanity; it contains all the wisdom that leads to salvation, and it is the sole, absolute, and supreme authority and rule for the faith and life of every believer.2

The Triune God

We believe in the one and only true and eternally living God.1 God is one in essence, yet eternally self-existent in three Persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — who are wholly equal in power, authority, and glory.2 The Triune God created the entire universe out of nothing and governs all history according to His sovereign will and providence.3

God the Father

We believe that God the Father is the almighty Father who created the entire universe and all humanity, and who governs them by His sovereign providence and His eternal wisdom and love.1 To save sinners, the Father planned the grace of salvation from all eternity and sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into the world;2 and He is the Father of grace who receives as His children all who receive Christ as Saviour.3

God the Son, Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal only begotten Son of God the Father, truly God and truly man.1 He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life of perfect obedience.2 On the cross He bore our sins in our place and died, shedding His blood as a penal substitutionary atonement;3 He rose bodily on the third day according to the Scriptures, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Almighty.4 He remains the sole Head of the Church and our Mediator, ruling over us and interceding for us Himself.5

God the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, to be worshipped and praised together with the Father and the Son.1 The Spirit convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment, and regenerates the sinner who hears the gospel of the cross.2 He also indwells the heart of every believer, guides them into the truth, causes the fruit of sanctification to grow, and grants a diversity of gifts to build up the church and to empower believers to live as witnesses of the gospel.3

Humanity and the Fall

We believe that humanity was created in honour, in the image of God, and called into fellowship with Him.1 Yet through the rebellion and disobedience of the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, all humanity came under guilt and spiritual death;2 and we confess that human beings are by nature totally depraved sinners who can never come to God by their own will or works, and who cannot escape God's eternal wrath and judgment.3

Salvation

We believe the gospel truth that salvation is given by God's sovereign grace alone (Sola Gratia) and through faith alone (Sola Fide).1 When a sinner repents of sin and receives as Saviour the redeeming work of Jesus Christ completed on the cross, God imputes Christ's righteousness to that sinner, justifies them by grace alone, and makes them His child.2 Salvation is not obtained by works of the law or by human merit; it is the gift God gives freely.3

The Church and Mission

We believe that the Church is the holy union of the Lord Jesus Christ, its Head, with all the saints who form His body and who have been redeemed by His precious blood.1 The Church worships God with joy, faithfully proclaims the pure Word of God, faithfully administers the holy sacraments instituted by the Lord Himself — baptism and the Lord's Supper — and shares the love and fellowship of the saints.2 The Church must also practise the holiness and justice of the kingdom of God in the world, care for the neighbour who is cast aside, and carry out the missionary calling of bearing witness to the gospel of Christ among all peoples and making disciples.3

The Sacrament of Baptism

We believe in the outward sacrament administered with water and in the inward grace of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, by whom we are born again. We believe that baptism is a holy sacrament and a sign and seal of the covenant of grace.1 Baptism is a means of grace that publicly seals and confirms union with Christ, the washing away of sin, regeneration by the Holy Spirit, and the calling to walk in newness of life as a people belonging to the Lord.2

The Second Coming and Final Judgment

We firmly believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will come again in power and great glory, in the sight of all humanity, in the same body in which He rose (the day being known to the Father alone).1 On the last day of history the bodies of all the righteous and the wicked will be raised and will stand before God's righteous great white throne of judgment.2 The saints who have been redeemed through faith in Christ will enjoy the blessedness of the new heaven and the new earth in the eternal life of the resurrection; and those who finally reject the gospel will be subject to eternal separation from God and to everlasting punishment.3

Sanctification and the Christian Life

We believe in the grace of sanctification, by which God also makes holy those whom He has justified.1 The Holy Spirit indwells the believer, puts to death the power of sin, and conforms the believer to the image of Christ; and the saints are called to a life of daily self-denial and obedience to the Lord in the Word, in prayer, in worship, and in the fellowship of the saints.2 Good works are not the ground of salvation but the fruit of true faith, and a means of glorifying God and loving one's neighbour.3 We believe in the grace of perseverance, by which God upholds and preserves His people to the end; and we believe that although the saints do not attain perfection in this life, they grow in repentance and grace and will at last come to glory.4

Human Life, Sex, and Marriage

We believe that every human being bears the image of God and is precious from the moment of conception to natural death, and that this dignity does not vary according to age, ability, health, or usefulness. We therefore honour life as the gift of God, and we confess that the Church bears the responsibility to protect and care for life in the womb and for the weak, the sick, those living with disability, the elderly, and the poor.1

We believe, as the Scriptures say, that God created human beings male and female.2

We believe that marriage is a covenant instituted by God Himself, by which one man and one woman are joined as one for life; and, following God's blessing to be fruitful and multiply, we believe that children are to be received as God's heritage and raised in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.3

We believe that, while holding fast to this confession in the truth, we are to treat every person with the love and compassion of Christ, and to invite sinners not to condemnation but to the place of repentance and grace.4
